Charlotte Wharton, a New Englander, grew up on a large farm in Kansas tending animals, working flower and vegetable gardens, and strolling pasturelands. With nostalgia and a longing for these idyllic settings, Chalotte travels the United States and Europe. Her work is most often described as sensitive, serene, and "other worldly". She has exhibited in Italy, France, Russia, and the United States. Her work is internationally collected and has garnered more than four dozen awards. These include The Oil Painters of America Award For Excellence In Painting, Tthe Copley Society of Boston's Gold Medal, and the Award For Excellence in Portraiture. Selected works were reproduced in the Rockport Press books: The Best Of Oil Painting, The Best Of Pastel, and Portraits Inspirations. She was a finalist in the Artist's Magazine's 1993 portrait competition and her work has been featured many times on WGMC - TV. Charlotte earned a BFA from Clark University, Worcester, Massachussetts, graduating summa cum laude. She studied additionally with the greats: Aaron Shikler, Everett Raymond Kinstler, and Robert Gerbracht. Three of her juried memberships are: The Plein Air Painters of New England, The American Pastel Society, and The Copley Society of Boston. Charlotte is a Copley Master and served as Chair of the Membershp Committee for five years. For over twenty years, Charlotte has taught classes and workshops at the Worcester Art Museum, across the United States, and in the British West Indies. |
