Nationally recognized as one of the major talents in her field, New Mexico artist, Ann Templeton, avows that art is her "whole day...all day, everyday."  Not only is she busy painting either in her studio or outside in the mountains of New Mexico, she spends about 15 weeks each year traveling across the country conducting seminars and workshops on color theory and brushwork, two subjects for which she is very well known.

Templeton describes her artistic journey: "Thirty years ago my mindset became a focus - to thoroughly understand, breathe, smell and taste the landscape. A long painting endeavor began. It continues each day with new intensities, new subleties, new messages and new creations taking place. In the meantime I have come to understand the magnificent application of paint to a surface, and even more so have learned to enjoy the trip rather than the product I wish to touch my viewer with some of the beauty that surrounds us - to let others understand some of my vision."

Working directly from her subjects, Ann paints still lifes which she has carefully arranged in her studio and as for landscapes, she works en plein air as she feels that "painting outside makes the work more sensitive."  She usually works alla prima as well which means that she completes her studies in one sitting.  "I'm rather a seat-of-the-pants painter.  I love the spontaneity and freshness that come from a quick decision.  I don't pre-plan and I don't pre-draw.  I just start painting.  I think that painting has to be a spontaneous emotional outpouring of energy that begins with the first brushstroke and ends when you put the last one down."

Ann's powerful brushwork and mastery of color have won her numerous accolades and forms of recognition, including acceptance into juried exhibitions of the Knickerbocker Artists, New York and the Allied Artists of America.  She is often asked to jury national shows each year and was selected by American Artist's Magazine as one of the top 100 landscape painters in the United States.  Ann's work may be found in at least eight galleries around the country and in numerous private and corporate collections.
