North Carolina artist Paul Minnis is an accomplished realist painter who generally prefers to work on a large scale.  He is particularly well known here for his "door paintings" which are often sized similarly to actual doors.  These charming paintings depict, for example, open doors looking out onto comfortable, inviting porches with old-fashioned rocking chairs basking in afternoon sunlight.

A former professor and chairman of the Ceramics Department at East Carolina University, Paul Minnis has conducted workshops and taught classes at many institutions, including Penn State Univeristy, the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C., and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  He is an active member of many organizations dedicated to the arts, including the American Craftsman Council for North Carolina, the American Ceramic Society, the North Carolina Watercolor Society, and Piedmont Craftsmen, Inc.

Minnis' work may be found in numerous private and corporate collections, such as the North Carolina Museum of Art, Duke University, American Airlines at the Raleigh-Durham Airport (200 ft. mural), IBM Research Triangle Park in Raleigh, N.C., and Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C.

Paul Minnis will be teaching a Watercolor Workshop in June 2008.  Click here for more information.
