Born in New Jersey, Peter Fiore studied at both Pratt Institute and the Art Students' League under David Passalacqua, Gerry Contreras, Robert Cunningham, and John Collier, among others. In the past, Fiore has been a faculty member at Pratt Institute and Syracuse University. He is currently on the faculty at New York's School of Visual Arts.
Fiore has received more than 75 distinguished awards, including a silver medal bestowed by the Society of Illustrators. He also served as president of this professional prestigious organization from 1993 to 1995 and he was included in "The Illustrator in America, 1860-2000" by Walt Reed. He recently won First Place for Landscape Painting in the Artist's Magazine Annual competition for 2007, the feature is due out in December of this year.
Peter Fiore has exhibited world-wide and his paintings are included in numerous private and corporate collections, including the permanent collections of Ralph Lauren/Polo, American Express, Time Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, Reader's Digest, AT&T, Xerox, IBM, Geigy Pharmaceuticals, NBC, CBS, Canon, Texaco, Exxon, Pepsi Cola, Union Carbide, Nikon, Pan-Am, the United States Air Force, the United States Army, and International Paper.
Fiore uses his bold brushwork and vibrant palette to create strong patterns of contrast. Of his painting style he says: "It is the play of light and shadow that allows us to perceive an object's shape and size, but for me, light is more than a visual tool. It is an emotional subject. It is through the manipulation of light---how it falls, changes, sculpts, colors, and creates various moods on a subject---that intrigues and inspires me." No matter the subject, Fiore says "I'm interested in making the simple profound". His favorite subject matter is the winter landscape, "a time when the earth looses its leafy covering and reveals it's true self. Covered in snow, the world reflects light and creates a spectrum of colors that are both dramatic and beautiful".
